R.C. Slocum served as head coach of the Texas A&M football team from 1989-2002. A 2012 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame, Slocum went 123-47-2 as the Aggies head coach. In his 14 years at the helm at Texas A&M, the Aggies never posted a losing record and made 11 bowl game appearances. From 1991-1993, Slocum led the Aggies to three straight Southwest Conference titles. During that span, Texas A&M advanced to three straight Cotton Bowls and were ranked no lower than the No. 12 team in the nation by the Associated Press.

After the dissolution of the Southwest Conference, Texas A&M joined the Big 12, where Slocum quickly led the Aggies to additional success as they won back-to-back Big 12 South titles in 1997 and 1998 and capturing an overall Big 12 Conference title the latter year. Before taking over as head coach at Texas A&M, Slocum was the team’s defensive coordinator from 1982-1988. From 1972-1978, he was an offensive and defensive assistant for the Aggies and, aside from a short stint at USC as the team’s defensive coordinator in 1980, he spent every year between 1972 and 2002 at Texas A&M. In 2019, he served as Texas A&M’s interim athletic director.
