Barry Switzer served as head football coach for the Oklahoma Sooner from 1973-1988 before moving to the NFL and coaching the Dallas Cowboys from 1994-1997. A 2001 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame, the Sooners won three National Championships under Switzer, including back-to-back titles in 1974 and 1975 and again in 1985. Switzer was the Sporting News’ College Football Coach of the Year in 1973 and the Walter Camp Coach of the Year in 1974. Switzer was also given the Jim Thorpe Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. During his tenure, Oklahoma captured 12 Big Eight Conference titles, including eight straight from 1973-1980 and four consecutive from 1984-1987. Switzer led Oklahoma to eight bowl victories and an overall 157-29 record as head coach. He coached numerous players who would go on to play in the NFL, including Brian Bosworth, Keith Jackson, Tony Casillas, Lee Roy Selmon and Billy Sims.

Upon becoming head coach of the Cowboys in 1994 after the departure of Jimmy Johnson, Dallas went 12-4 in each of his first two years, culminating in a Super Bowl XXX victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 1995-1996 season. That team featured future Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Charles Haley, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Larry Allen and Deion Sanders. Switzer is one of three coaches (the others being Johnson and Pete Carroll) to have won both a Super Bowl and collegiate national title. Before taking over head coaching duties at Oklahoma, Switzer served as offensive coordinator at the school from 1966-1972. His start in coaching began as tailbacks coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks in 1961, where he enjoyed a playing career from 1956-1960.
