Dat Nguyen became the first (and to this day remains the only) Vietnamese-American to compete in the NFL when he played linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys from 1999-2005. He was named to the 1999 All-Rookie Team and was a second-team All-Pro in 2003.

Nguyen was selected by Dallas in the 1999 NFL Draft in the 3rd round out of Texas A&M, where he enjoyed a storied college career and received a host of honors, including winning the Lombardi, Bednarik and Lambert awards in 1998 along with being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year that same year. Nguyen is a member of several hall of fames, including the Texas Sports Hall of Fame (2014), Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame (2007) and Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame (2004). He became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017 and was inducted along with Peyton Manning, Brian Urlacher, Adrian Peterson, Steve Spurrier and Marshall Faulk. In 2010, he was named a member of the AP’s All-Time Big 12 Team.

After retiring from playing in 2006, Nguyen worked several years as an assistant coach with the Cowboys and Aggies. More recently, Nguyen opened a Chick-fil-A in Fort Worth, Texas.
