Tom Osborne led the Nebraska Cornhuskers football program from 1973-1997. During his time at Nebraska, the Huskers posted a remarkable 255-49-3 overall record and finished their season ranked among the Top 10 teams nationally in 20 of his 25 years as head coach. His Nebraska teams won National Championships in 1994, 1995 and 1997 to go along with a total of 12 Big Eight Conference titles (1975, 1978, 1981-1984, 1988, 1991-1995) and one Big 12 title (1997).

He became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999, the same year that Nebraska renamed the playing surface at its home stadium, Memorial Stadium, in his honor, Tom Osborne Field. In 2000, he was honored with the Jim Thorpe Lifetime Achievement Award and received the Distinguished American Award from the Walter Camp Football Foundation in 2012. The next year, in 2013, the NAIA Football National Championship trophy was named in his honor, the Tom Osborne Trophy.

Osborne earned Big Eight Coach of the Year honors eight times (1975, 1976, 1980, 1988, 1992-1994) and was the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year in 1978. ESPN named him the college football Coach of the Decade in 1999. Under his leadership, Nebraska never failed to make a postseason bowl appearance in 25 years. Osborne coached a total of 53 All-Americans, including Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier, Tommie Frazier, Will Shields, Grant Wistrom and Trev Alberts. Before becoming head coach at Nebraska, Osborne was an assistant coach in Lincoln from 1964-1968 and the Huskers’ offensive coordinator from 1969-1972.

After retiring from coaching, Osborne served as Athletics Director at the school for five years and three terms in the House of Representatives from 2001-2007, serving Nebraska’s 3rd congressional district. Tom and his wife Nancy founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 to provide support and encouragement to youth and have served over 7,500 kids in over 130 chapters across Wyoming, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska.
