Jimmy Johnson served as a head coach in both the NFL and college football, notably leading the Dallas Cowboys from 1989-1993 and the University of Miami from 1984-1988. Johnson is a 2020 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame while, in 2012, he became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Under his leadership in Dallas, the Cowboys improved from a 1-15 record during his first season to back-to-back Super Bowl champions (XXVII, XXVIII) in 1992 and 1993 with teams that featured future Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin. In 1990, he was named NFL Coach of the Year by the Associated Press.

Before moving to the ranks of the NFL, Johnson served as head coach at Miami where he guided the Hurricanes to a 52-9 overall record. From 1984-1986, Miami advanced to two Fiesta Bowls and the Sugar Bowl with Johnson being named the Walter Camp Coach of the Year in 1986. In 1987, Johnson led the Hurricanes to a perfect 12-0 record and national championship. In the title game, Miami defeated the Barry Switzer-coached University of Oklahoma Sooners, 20-14. Miami would go on to repeat as Orange Bowl victors in 1988.

Prior to Miami, Johnson served as head coach at Oklahoma State (1979-1983). After his tenure in Dallas, he also coached the Miami Dolphins (1996-1999). After his coaching days ended, Johnson embarked on a successful broadcasting career and has been a longtime studio analyst for Fox Sports’ Fox NFL Sunday.
