Houston Nutt is a former college football coach who for 10 seasons from 1998-2007 led the Arkansas Razorbacks. Nutt also served as head coach of Murray State (1993-1996), Boise State (1997) and Ole Miss (2008-2011). In total, Nutt compiled a head coaching record of 129-96 with nine bowl appearances. Nutt is a three-time SEC Coach of the Year, having captured the award in 2001, 2006 and 2008.
In 1998, his first year at the helm at Arkansas, he led the Razorbacks to a SEC Western Division title with his team finishing the season ranked No. 16 in the nation. While Arkansas lost in the Florida Citrus Bowl that season, it began a six-year streak of bowl appearances for the Razorbacks under Nutt’s leadership. Later, in 2006, Nutt guided the team to a 10-4 record and another SEC Western Division title. Nutt’s 2008 and 2009 Ole Miss teams won back-to-back Cotton Bowls for his first two seasons as head coach of the Rebels with both teams finishing their campaigns as one of the Top 25 teams in the country.
Nutt’s head coaching career began at Murray State, where his 1995 and 1996 squads went a combined 22-3, appearing in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. For both seasons, he was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year. In 1995, he was further honored with the Eddie Robinson Award as the best coach in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision. Nutt is a member of the Murray State Hall of Fame, Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame and Arkansas Hall of Fame. After his coaching days, Nutt moved into broadcasting where he served as a college football analyst for CBS Sports.
