Gene Chizik is a former football coach who from 2009-2012 served as head coach at Auburn. During his first three seasons at Auburn, the Tigers never finished worse than 8-5 and won a postseason bowl game every year. During the 2010-2011 season, he led the Tigers to a 14-0 record, SEC West title and national title after defeating Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game, 22-19. His success that season earned Chizik a plethora of coaching accolades, including the Home Depot Coach of the Year, Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year and Paul “Bear” Bryant Award. He was also named the Associated Press’ SEC Coach of the Year and Bobby Bowden National Collegiate Coach of the Year.

Prior to taking the job at Auburn, Chizik got his first head coaching job at Iowa State, where he led the Cyclones for two season in 2007 and 2008. Chizik spent 1992-1997 coaching the defense at Stephen F. Austin while from 1999-2001 he was defensive coordinator at Central Florida. From 2002-2004, he was defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Auburn before becoming co-defensive coordinator at Texas for the following two years. Most recently, he was North Carolina’s defensive coordinator in 2015-2016. He got his start in coaching in 1986 when he was named an assistant at Seminole High School in Florida. Outside of his coaching career, Chizik has served as a broadcaster with the SEC Network, ESPNU and SiriusXM Satellite Radio.
