Hines Ward spent 14 seasons from 1998-2011 playing wide receiver in the NFL, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ward recorded exactly 1,000 catches in his career for 12,083 yards while scoring 85 touchdowns. He is one of just 14 players in NFL history to record 1,000 receptions, an elite club featuring the likes of Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten, Cris Carter and Tony Gonzalez. During his time in the Steel City, Ward won two Super Bowl rings (XL, XLIII). In the Steelers’ 21-10 win over Seattle in Super Bowl XL, he had five receptions for 123 yards and one score, a performance that earned him MVP honors for the game. Ward was three times named by the Steelers as team MVP and in 2007 was named a member of Pittsburgh’s All-Time Team.

He was picked by the Steelers in the 3rd round of the 1998 draft. In 2001, he had a breakout campaign, catching 94 passes for 1,003 yards and four td’s. This began a four-year streak in which Ward recorded at least 1,000 yards of receiving and 80 catches, including 2002 when he set career-highs in receptions (112), yards (1,329) and touchdowns (12.) His reception and touchdown numbers were at the time all-time Steelers records, marks that were later surpassed by Antonio Brown. During that span, Ward was named to the Pro Bowl in four straight seasons along with receiving second-team All-Pro honors three times.

Born on March 8, 1976 in Seoul, South Korea, Ward moved to the United States at the age of one and grew up in Georgia. He played college football at the University of Georgia from 1994-1997, where he tallied 3,870 all-purpose yards, the second most in school history trailing only Herschel Walker. After his playing days, Ward worked as a studio analyst for CNN and NBC’s “Football Night in America” and hosted a tv show in Pittsburgh called the “Hines Ward Show”. In 2019, he joined the New York Jets as an assistant coach.
