Bill Cowher enjoyed great success while coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1992-2006. Cowher, who became just the second head coach for the franchise since 1969 after succeeding Hall of Famer Chuck Noll, compiled a 149-90-1 record in his 15 seasons with the Steelers. His winning percentage trails only Mike Tomlin for the best-ever in franchise history. He coached Pittsburgh to two Super Bowls, including a 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. During his tenure with the team, Cowher led the Steelers to eight AFC Central Division titles, 10 appearances in the post-season and six AFC Championship Game berths. His 10 division titles led the NFL during his tenure as was Pittsburgh’s record in the regular season.

In 1992, his first year with the Steelers, Cowher guided the team to an 11-5 record and was named the AP NFL Coach of the Year and Sporting News NFL Coach of the Year. The 2004 season saw Pittsburgh go 15-1 on the year, a performance which earned Cowher another Sporting News NFL Coach of the Year award. In 2019, Cowher became a member of the Steelers’ Hall of Honor, joining such greats as Franco Harris, Terry Bradshaw, Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward and Jack Ham. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

As a player, Cowher spent five seasons from 1980-1984 playing for the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. He got his start in coaching in 1985 working for Marty Schottenheimer in Cleveland, where he served as an assistant with the Browns until 1988 before moving to Kansas City and working for the Chiefs form 1989-1991. Born on May 8, 1957 in Crafton, Pennsylvania, Cowher played linebacker at North Carolina State before graduating in 1979. After his coaching days, Cowher embarked on a successful broadcast career when he was hired by CBS Sports in 2007. He currently works as a studio analyst on “The NFL Today”.
