In 1972 with the Indians, Perry won the first of two Cy Young awards, winning 24 games with an ERA of 1.92 and 232 strikeouts. He won another Cy Young in 1978 at age 29 with San Diego behind a 21-6 record, a 2.73 ERA and 154 strikeouts. Perry earned votes for MLB MVP in six different seasons. He pitched a no-hitter with the Giants in 1968 and, in 2005, the Giants retired his jersey #36. He is a member of the Giants Wall of Fame and the Indians Hall of Fame. In 1999, The Sporting News ranked him as one of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players. After retiring, Perry served as head coach of Limestone College’s baseball team in South Carolina.
