Bill Ripken played infield in the majors for 11 seasons for the Baltimore Orioles (1987-1992, 1996), Texas Rangers (1993-1994, 1997), Cleveland Indians (1995) and Detroit Tigers (1998). Ripken is the younger brother of Hall of Fame infielder Cal Ripken Jr. and son of the late Cal Ripken Sr., who spent more than three decades as a coach, player and scout in the Orioles organization.

Ripken grew up in Aberdeen, Maryland and went to Aberdeen High School. He was picked by in the 11th round by the Orioles in the 1982 MLB draft. Ripken worked his way up through the Orioles minor league system playing for the Bluefield Orioles, Hagerstown Suns, Daytona Beach Admirals, Charlotte Orioles and Rochester Red Wings. Ripken made his Major League Baseball debut on July 11, 1987.

His debut was historical as it was the first time in MLB history that a father managed two sons who played on the same team (Cal Sr. was the manager and Cal Jr. was the shortstop). Additionally, Bill and Cal are among just four brother combos all-time to play shortstop and 2nd base on one team. After his playing career ended, Ripken went into broadcasting and has worked for SiriusXM and MLB Network. He also worked with Cal to start Ripken Baseball, which owns several minor league baseball teams.
