AJ Hinch is a former MLB catcher and current manager of the Houston Astros. Hinch enjoyed a playing career from 1998-2004 with the Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals, Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers before retiring in 2005. After his playing days, Hinch joined the Arizona Diamondbacks in various capacities before being named manager in 2009. He served in that role midway through the 2010 season. San Diego hired him as an overseer of scouting, a position he held from 2010-2014 before assuming manager duties for the Astros on September 29, 2014.

In 2015, he led Houston to its first playoff berth since 2005. In 2017, Hinch managed the Astros to a regular season mark of 101-61 record in route to capturing the NL Central title, its first in 16 seasons. Houston would continue its strong play into the playoffs and won the World Series, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. In so doing, Hinch set the all-time record for postseason wins by an Astros manager (it was previously held by Phil Garner).

Hinch was born in Iowa before moving to Oklahoma at an early age. He attended Midwest City High School, where in 1992 he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year. He went on to play collegiately at Stanford. In 1996, he was a member of the United States team that won a bronze medal at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
