Eric Montross played basketball at the University of North Carolina from 1990-1994 and in the NBA from 1994-2002 for the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors. During his time in college, Montross was a first-team All-ACC pick in 1993 and two-time consensus second-team All-American in 1993 and 1994. In 1993, Montross helped lead the Tar Heels to an NCAA title over the University of Michigan. During his four-year stay in Chapel Hill, Montross averaged 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. His jersey #00 was honored by the school and hangs at the Dean E. Smith Center, joining other school greats such as Michael Jordan, James Worthy, J.R. Reid, Kenny Smith, Brad Daugherty, Sam Perkins and Vince Carter.
After college, Montross was picked by the Celtics in the 1st round of the 1994 NBA draft, where he was named a member of the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 10 points in his first year in the league. In total for his career, Montross had a per game average of 4.5 points and 4.6 rebounds. After retiring from playing, Montross has worked as a radio analyst for UNC basketball games and in the school’s athletic department as Major Gifts Director. Outside of athletics, Montross has been very involved in the community, serving on the boards of Be Loud! Sophie Foundation, Vaccine Ambassadors and Super Cooper’s Little Red Wagon Foundation. Montross was born on September 23, 1971 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
