Hardaway played for the Phoenix Suns from 1999-2004, averaging 12.4 points in 236 games. Hardaway played two seasons for the New York Knicks in 2005-06 and finished his NBA career with the Miami Heat in 2007. He retired with a 15.2 points per game average and was a known impact performer in the playoffs; in the eight seasons that he participated in the postseason, Hardaway averaged 20.4 points per game. Hardaway coached high school basketball in Memphis before being named head coach of his alma mater in 2018.
