Charlie Ward is a retired athlete who played football and basketball in college and played in the NBA from 1994-2005. Ward had a storied collegiate sports career. He attended Florida State University where he played four years of basketball and football for the Seminoles. In 1993, Ward led FSU to its first-ever National Championship, defeating Nebraska, 18-16, in the Orange Bowl. That year, he won the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, Johnny Unitas Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Sullivan Award and Chic Harley Award in recognition of his 27-touchdown, 3,032-yard senior campaign. He also was The Sporting News Player of the Year in 1993.

In basketball, Ward set career-high marks as a senior, averaging 10.4 points per game. He was selected in the first round of the 1994 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, where Ward played from 1994-2004 as a point guard. He helped the Knicks to an appearance in the 1999 NBA Finals. Ward played briefly for the Spurs and later Houston from 2003-2005 before retiring. During his time in the NBA, he averaged 6.3 points per game and was a career .408 shooter.

He has been heavily involved in off-the-court charitable activities, especially with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 2011, he received the John Wooden Keys to Life award for excellence on and off the court.
