Tom Kite is a former professional golfer who won 19 tournaments on the PGA Tour, including the 1992 U.S. Open. Kite also finished runner-up at the Masters in 1983, 1986 and 1997 and The Open Championship in 1978. He led the PGA Tour in earnings in 1981 and 1989 and was the first player to amass career earnings of $6 million, $7 million, $8 million and $9 million. Internationally, Kite played on seven U.S. Ryder Cup teams and was the captain in 1997. Off the course, Kite is a successful course designer and has worked on such courses as Liberty National, Coco Beach Resort, Comanche Trace and Legends on LBJ. Kite was born in McKinney, Texas and started playing golf at six years old. He competed collegiately at the University of Texas and shared the 1972 NCAA Championship with Longhorns teammate Ben Crenshaw.
