Fred Couples is a professional golfer who won the 1992 Masters. He has won 64 professional tournaments, including 15 on the PGA Tour, 13 on the PGA Tour Champions and 3 on the European Tour. Other notable wins on the PGA Tour include the 1984 and 1996 Players Championship. He also finished second at the PGA Championship (1990), third at the US Open (1991) and third at The Open Championship (1991, 2005). In 1992, Couples was ranked number one in the Official World Golf Rankings for 16 weeks. In so doing, he became the first American to be ranked in the top position since the debut of the rankings in 1986. He was also a five-time member of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team. Couples won his first major on the PGA Tour Champions at the 2011 Senior Player Championship. He also won the 2012 Senior Open Championship.

During his time on the PGA Tour, Couples was one of the most popular players. He was twice named PGA Tour Player of the Year in 1991 and 1992 (along with the Vardon Trophy for lowest scoring average) and was the leading money winner in 1992. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2012. Couples was born in Seattle, Washington and attended O’Dea High School. He played collegiately at the University of Houston where one his roommates was future CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz.
