One of America’s best-known sportscasters, Jim Nantz has enjoyed a celebrated broadcast career since joining CBS Sports in 1985. He currently teams with analyst Tony Romo and provides play-by-play coverage as part of the lead team for CBS Sports’ coverage of the NFL, a role he’s served since 2004. He is also part of the lead broadcast team for the network’s coverage of the PGA Tour, partnering with five-time major champion Nick Faldo. Nantz has been behind the mic for every Masters since 1988. Additionally, Nantz has done play-by-play for CBS’s coverage of NCAA men’s basketball for over 35 years, working more Final Four and championship games than any other broadcaster in history. He has also been on the broadcast team for nine U.S. Opens (tennis) and three Winter Olympics.

Nantz has been recognized with many awards and accolades over the course of his career. He has been named five times by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association as its National Sportscaster of the Year and, in 2008 and 2009, was the recipient of a Sports Emmy for Best Sports Personality in the category of play-by-play. In 2001, he was honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his contributions to professional football with the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. He is also a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, having received in 2002 the Curt Gowdy Media Award. In 2018, Nantz became an inductee of the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. He has additionally been the recipient of the Court of Honor Award (NABC), Lifetime Achievement Award (Golf Course Association of America), Jake Wade Award (CoSIDA), Naismith Outstanding Contributor to Men’s Basketball (Atlanta Tipoff Club) and Distinguished Service Award (Metropolitan Golf Association).

Born on May 17, 1959, Nantz played college golf at the University of Houston and was roommate of 1992 Masters champion Fred Couples. He got his start in broadcasting working various jobs in college, which resulted in him working locally for KHOU-TV and KTRH Radio. He then moved to Salt Lake City, where he served as an anchor for KSL-TV and also worked Utah Jazz and Brigham Young University (BYU) football games. Away from the broadcast booth, Nantz partnered in 2011 with Houston Methodist Hospital and started the Nantz National Alzheimer Center in honor of his father, who fought the disease for 13 years. In 2008, Nantz authored the New York Times bestseller “Always By My Side: A Father’s Grace and a Sports Journey Unlike Any Other.” The forward was written by President George H.W. Bush.
