Ron Darling is a former MLB starting pitcher and current broadcaster. In his 13-year playing career, Darling posted a record of 136-116, striking out 1,590 batters to go along with an ERA of 3.87. Darling played professionally from 1983-1995 with the New York Mets (1983-1991), Montreal Expos (1991) and Oakland Athletics (1991-1995).

A first-round selection out of Yale in the 1981 MLB Draft, Darling was originally chosen by the Texas Rangers before being traded to the Mets in 1982. In 1984, his first full year in the majors, Darling placed fifth in that year’s Rookie of the Year voting.

After going 16-6 with a 2.90 ERA in 1985, Darling was named to the All-Star game. That season, he started a career-high 35 games while his 248 innings pitched also proved to be a career-best. The 1986 season saw Darling pick up right where he left off in 1985 as he received the fifth-most votes for the Cy Young Award. Darling went 15-6 with a 2.81 ERA, helping the Mets to victory in the 1986 World Series. In 1988, Darling won a career-best 17 games and, in 1989, his stellar defense was rewarded with a Gold Glove Award.

After his playing days, Darling turned to broadcasting and has been active in television since 2000, working for TBS, SNY, WPIX and MLB Network. Darling is also the author of three sports books.
