She represented Canada at the Olympics five times and was a key member of the teams that won gold medals at four consecutive Winter Olympics (2002 Salt Lake City, 2006 Turin, 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi). She also won a silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. Wickenheiser is tied with Jayna Hefford and Caroline Oullette for the most gold medals all-time won by a Canadian. During the 2006 Olympics, Wickenheiser posted a career-high 17 points in five games played, earning tournament MVP honors for her performance. Wickenheiser retired in 2017 as Canada's all-time leader with 379 points, which was comprised of 168 goals along with 211 assists. While her international hockey career won her many medals and accolades, Wickenheiser also represented Canada at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the sport of softball.

Off the ice, Wickenheiser’s efforts in the community and her work with young people was recognized by the Foundation for Global Sports Development when it presented her with the Athletes in Excellence Award. Additionally, Wickenheiser was one of two female hockey players who appeared in the EA Sports video game “NHL 13”. She also authored the book “Gold Medal Diary – Inside the World’s Greatest Sports Event”. In 2014, Wickenheiser was named to the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission and, in 2018, she was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as the Assistant Director of Player Development.
