Ed Reed is a retired NFL safety who played the majority of his 12-year NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens from 2002-2012. He also spent time with the Houston Texans and New York Jets in 2013. A 2019 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Reed is also a member of the NFL’s 2000s All-Decade Team and 100th Anniversary Team. A member of the Ravens Ring of Honor, in 2013 Reed won a Super Bowl ring with the team as the Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, 34-31.
A nine-time Pro Bowl selection (2003, 2004, 2006-2012), Reed was named first-team All Pro five times (2004, 2006-08, 2010) and second-team All-Pro three times (2003, 2009 and 2011). Reed had a knack for the ball during his career and in 2004, 2008 and 2010, he led the NFL in interceptions. His 1,590 career interception return yards is an NFL record. In 2004, Reed recorded 76 tackles and nine picks en route to winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Reed played college football at Miami, where he was a part of the 2001 Hurricanes National Championship team along with other NFL players Clinton Portis, Jeremy Shockey, Willis McGahee, Andre Johnson, Frank Gore and Jonathan Vilma among others. He was Co-Big East Defensive Player of the Year that season and a consensus All-American in 2000 and 2001 as well. In 2020, Reed became the chief of staff of the football team at his alma mater.
