Thad Matta is a former college basketball coach who most notably led Ohio State from 2004-2017 and is the winningest coach in Buckeyes history. Matta retired after the 2016-2017 season with an overall record in Columbus of 337-123. He led Ohio State to two Final Four appearances (2007, 2012), four Big Ten Tournament championships and five Big Ten regular season titles. The Buckeyes made the NCAA Tournament in nine of his 13 years as coach while Ohio State won the NIT Tournament for the 2007-2018 season behind a 24-13 record. In 2006, 2007 and 2010, Motta was named Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year.

Prior to Ohio State, Matta coached the Xavier Bulldogs from 2001-2003. He won 26 games in three consecutive seasons and took home the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2002 He was head coach at Butler in 2000-2001, where he was named Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2001 and before that, served as an assistant coach at several schools, including Indiana State, Butler, Miami (OH) and Western Carolina. Matta grew up in Hoopeston, Illinois and played collegiately at Butler after transferring from Southern Illinois University. He was a two-year starter for the Bulldogs and graduated in 1990.
