Nick Anderson is a former NBA shooting guard/small forward who played from 1989-2002. Anderson played college hoops at Illinois for two seasons, leading the Fighting Illini to the Final Four in 1989. Overall, he averaged 16.9 points per game in college. Drafted 11th overall in the 1989 NBA Draft, Anderson was selected by the Orlando Magic, for whom he played until 1999. Anderson established a career-high with 19.9 points per game in the 1991-92 season; he registered the exact same figure the following season.
Anderson was the first draft pick in Magic franchise history (the team was established in 1989) and played a big role in the young team’s early history. Orlando made the NBA Finals in 1995 but was swept by the Houston Rockets. Anderson averaged over 14 points per game in both the regular season and playoffs that year. He ended his time with the Magic in 1999 having never averaged less than 10.8 points per game.
Anderson played for the Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies in the final three seasons of his career before retiring in 2002. He was elected to the Illini Men’s Basketball All-Century Team in 2004. After retiring, he’s worked in the Magic’s community relations department and served as a broadcaster for Fox Sports Florida during Orlando’s pre and post-game shows.
