One of the most successful Indy car drivers in the sport’s history, Michael Andretti’s 42 victories in 317 contests are the most wins by any racer in the Champion Auto Racing Teams (CART) era and ranks fourth most of all-time. He claimed his first victory at the 1986 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and, in 1991, he won the CART IndyCar PPG World Series. Andretti became a member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame America in 2008 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in 2012. He retired from racing full-time after the Indianapolis 500 in 2003.

Andretti got his start racing karts, where over an eight-year span he won 50 of 75 contests. He first started competing in CART in 1983 and, during his first full season in 1984, Andretti was named Co-Rookie of the Year after five top three finishes and ended the season in 7th place in the overall standings. He claimed his first victory at the 1986 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. His best season came in 1991 when he raced 17 times, winning eight contests along with eight pole positions and edged out Bobby Rahal in winning the World Series. In addition to his title in 1991, Andretti finished second five times and third once. His eight wins in 1991 tied Al Unser Jr. for the most victories ever in a single CART/IndyCar season.

In addition to his IndyCar career, Andretti competed on the Formula One circuit in 1993 for Marlboro McLaren and three times that season finished in the points. He has also owned Andretti Autosport and saw his drivers win the Indianapolis 500 in 2005, 2007, 2014, 2016 and 2017 and IndyCar Series title in 2004, 2005, 2007 & 2012. Andretti was born on October 5, 1962 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is the son of racing icon Mario Andretti and the father of driver Marco Andretti.
