Dave Roberts was named manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016. From 2016-2019, the Dodgers captured four straight N.L. West Division titles and, under his guidance, Los Angeles advanced to consecutive World Series in 2017 and 2018. In his first year at the helm of the Dodgers, Roberts guided the team to a 91-71 record. For his efforts, Roberts was named N.L. Manager of the Year.
Prior to his managing days, Robert enjoyed a playing career as an outfielder from 1999-2008 with the Cleveland Indians (1999-2001), Los Angeles Dodgers (2002-2004), Boston Red Sox (2004), San Diego Padres (2005-2006) and San Francisco Giants (2007-2008). During his short stint with the Red Sox, Roberts participated in a key sequence that helped Boston rally from a 3-1 series deficit against their rival New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS.
With the Red Sox trailing, 4-3, and facing series elimination in the bottom of the ninth inning, Roberts stole a base off of Yankees closer (and current Hall of Famer) Mariano Riviera. Roberts’ gutsy stealing of second base led to his scoring, which sparked a Red Sox rally and 12-inning victory that eventually led to a ALCS series win and ultimate sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2004 World Series. His steal was later honored by the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2006.
