Steve Pearce is a former MLB outfielder and first baseman who played from 2007-2019 for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2007-2011), Baltimore Orioles (2012, 2013-2015, 2016), Houston Astros (2012), New York Yankees (2012), Tampa Bay Rays (2016), Toronto Blue Jays (2017-2018) and Boston Red Sox (2018-2019).Pearce’s career blossomed late as his breakout season came at age 31 in 2014 with Baltimore, when he hit 21 home runs in 102 games. He also posted 26 doubles and 49 RBI that season. Pearce would go on to display similar bouts of power in limited games, as in 2015 when he hit 15 home runs in 92 games and in 2016 when he hit 13 home runs in 85 games.
In the summer of 2018, Pearce was traded to Boston, where in 50 games played he had 26 RBI and hit seven home runs with a batting average of.279. As the Red Sox advanced into the playoffs, Pearce assumed everyday first baseman responsibilities.In that year’s World Series against the National League’s Los Angeles Dodgers, Pearce had a home run and four RBI in Game 4 and went on to hit two more home runs in Game 5. He became the first Red Sox player since Carl Yastrzemski did so in 1967 to hit three home runs in the Fall Classic and was one of only three players in MLB history over the age of 35 to hit multiple home runs in a game, joining Babe Ruth and Ted Kluszewski. For his efforts, Pearce was named World Series MVP in route to helping Boston win the Series, 4-1.He retired from playing in 2020. Internationally, he won a gold medal representing the U.S. at the 2007 Baseball World Cup.
