Mitch Williams, known as “Wild Thing”, is a former MLB relief pitcher whose career spanned from 1986-1997 with the Texas Rangers (1986-1988), Chicago Cubs (1989-1990), Philadelphia Phillies (1991-1993), Houston Astros (1994), California Angels (1995) and Kansas City Royals (1997). Known during his career for a powerful fastball that could reach the high 90s in miles per hour, Williams compiled a career ERA of 3.65 and recorded 660 strikeouts with 192 saves.

In 1989, his first season with the Cubs, Williams played in 76 games with a 2.76 ERA and a then-career-high 36 saves. That season, he was named an All-Star, came in 9th in N.L. Cy Young voting and 10th in N.L. MVP voting. Williams played in Chicago through the 1990 season before being traded to Philadelphia in 1991. He had one of his finest seasons with the Phillies that year, posting a career-best 12 wins and 2.34 ERA to go along with 30 saves and 84 strikeouts. That season he finished sixth in N.L. Cy Young voting.

In 1993, his final season with the Phillies, Williams recorded 43 saves, the most of his career. After his playing days, Williams turned to broadcasting and worked locally in radio for 610 WIP AM and television for Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. He additionally was a studio analyst for the MLB Network and also worked as a game analyst for Fox Sports on its MLB coverage.
