Matt Ryan has played quarterback for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons since being picked in the 1st round by the team in the 2008 draft. He has been named to the Pro Bowl four times, in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. Ryan made an immediate impact with the Falcons in 2008, leading the team to an 11-5 record while throwing for 3,440 yards and 16 scores, a performance that earned him NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors as well as a place on the Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) All-Rookie Team. In 2012, Ryan led the NFL with a 68.6 completion percentage, guiding Atlanta to a 13-3 record while establishing a then career-high in passing yards (4,719) and touchdowns (32).
In 2016, Ryan enjoyed a stellar campaign, tossing 38 touchdown passes compared to just seven interceptions, throwing for 4,944 yards and leading the NFL with a 117.1 passer rating, all of which established new career-bests. In recognition of his superb season, Ryan was named the NFL MVP, NFL Offensive Player of the Year and won the Bert Bell Award while earning first-team All-Pro honors. At the culmination of the season, Ryan led the Falcons to Super Bowl LI where they lost to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in overtime. He currently holds most Falcons’ quarterback records, including regular season wins, overall wins and single season and career yards passing.
Off the field, Ryan is active in the greater Atlanta community. In 2020, he donated $500,000 via a GoFundMe campaign he started to help Atlanta’s black community. Born on May 17, 1985 in Exton, Pennsylvania, Ryan played college football at Boston College and recorded a 25-7 mark as a starter from 2005 – 2007. He also led the Eagles to three bowl wins and, in 2007, was honored as ACC Player of the Year.
