Matt Birk is a former NFL center who played from 1998-2012 with the Minnesota Vikings (1998-2008) and Baltimore Ravens (2009-2012). Birk was selected to six Pro Bowls in 2000- 2004 and 2006 -2007 and was twice named All-Pro in 2000 and 2003. After his 11 seasons with Minnesota, Birk signed with Baltimore in 2009 and helped the John Harbaugh-coached Ravens to a win in Super Bowl XLVII when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31.
A 1998 graduate of Harvard, he received All-Ivy League and Division I-AA All-Eastern College Athletic Conference honors in route to earning a degree in economics. He went on to be selected by the Vikings in the 6th round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Throughout his career, Birk was noted for his on-field talent as well as his involvement in the community. From 2002-2007, he was named the Vikings Man of the Year while in 2011, he was honored by the NFL with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, recognizing his excellence on the gridiron and philanthropic work off the field.
Birk in 2002 founded a non-profit foundation called HIKE, which provides at-risk children with programs and guidance from their elementary school days to college. He also has been active in improving child literacy rates in the Baltimore community as his “Ready, Set, Read!” program has worked with approximately 100,000 local children. A devout Catholic and pro-life advocate, Birk in 2018 spoke at the 45th Annual March for Life event in Washington D.C.
