Kenny Lofton is a former MLB outfielder who played from 1991-2007 and is best remembered for his three stints with the Cleveland Indians in 1992-1996, 1998-2001 and 2007. Lofton played for numerous other teams over the course of his career, including the Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers.

A member of the Indians Hall of Fame, Lofton in five straight seasons from 1992-1996 led the American League in steals. He would go on to rack up 622 steals in his career and, during that time, averaged 65 steals per season. In 1996 he had a career-high 75, while also posting career-bests in home runs (14) and RBI (67). He broke Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson’s postseason stolen base record during the postseason in 2007.

Lofton was a six-time All-Star, being named every year from 1994-1999. In that span he received AL MVP votes over the course of two seasons while from 1993-1996, he was awarded four consecutive Gold Glove Awards. In 1992, Lofton hit .285 and had 42 RBI to go along with 66 stolen bases in his first full year in the majors, a performance that saw him finish as runner-up for that year’s AL Rookie of the Year.

Born on May 31, 1967 in East Chicago, Indiana, Lofton attended the University of Arizona on a basketball scholarship. He is one of just two people to have competed in both a World Series and NCAA Final Four. While in Tucson, he tried out for the baseball team his junior year and eventually was drafted in 1988 by the Astros in the 17th round of the MLB Draft.
