Jon Kitna played quarterback in the NFL from 1996-2011 for the Seattle Seahawks (1996-2000), Cincinnati Bengals (2001-2005), Detroit Lions (2006-2008) and Dallas Cowboys (2009-2011). Kitna also played for the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe for a lone season in 1997, where he won the World Bowl V championship and was named the game MVP. After signing with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 1996, Kitna started 15 games for Seattle in 1999, leading the team to an AFC West title. Kitna joined Cincinnati in 2001 and quickly became the team’s starting quarterback. For the 2003 season, he threw for north of 3,500 yards with 26 scores while leading the Bengals to their first non-losing season since 1996 in route to being honored as the NFL Comeback Player of the Year and Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) Comeback Player of the Year.
Born on September 21, 1972 in Tacoma, Washington, Kitna attended Central Washington, where he led the Wildcats to a NAIA national title in 1995. He was named an NAIA All-American that season and finished his time in college as the all-time career leader in total offense at the NAIA level. In 2006, he became a member of the school’s Hall of Fame and, in 2014, the Pacific Northwest Football Hall of Fame. After his NFL days, Kitna turned to high school coaching, which included stints at Lincoln High School (WA), Waxahachie High School (TX), Brophy College Prep (AZ) and Burleson High School (TX). He also coached quarterbacks for the Cowboys in 2019. A devout Christian, Kitna is a sought-after keynote speaker on the subjects of Christianity, marriage, leadership and parenting.
