Jason Kendall is a retired MLB catcher who played from 1996 - 2010 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland A’s, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals. During his rookie year, he hit .300, was named to the National League All-Star Team and won the NL Rookie of the Year Award by The Sporting News. He was also an All-Star in both 1998 and 2000. On May 19, 2000, Kendall became the first player in Pittsburgh history to hit for the cycle. On November 18, 2000, Kendall signed a six-year extension worth $60 million, which made him the second-highest paid catcher at the time behind Mike Piazza. In both 2002 and 2005, Kendall led the majors in at-bats per strikeout (18.1 in 2002 & 15.4 in 2005). From 2002 - 2004, he led all catchers in games and innings played and is the Pirates\' all-time leader in games caught. After the 2004 season, Kendall was traded to Oakland. He went on play for the A’s from 2005-07, Cubs in 2007, Brewers in 2008-09 and Royals in 2010. He announced is retirement on July 24, 2012.
