George Brett played third base in the majors for 21 seasons from 1973-1993 and spent his entire career with the Kansas City Royals. Considered the greatest Royals player in franchise history, he became a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1999 with a 98.2% vote. Brett maintained a .305 batting average over the course of his career and also notched 3,154 hits with 317 home runs. Brett’s hits total ranks second all-time in MLB history for third baseman, trailing only Adrian Beltre, and he is one of only four players ever to record 300 home runs, 3,000 hits and a batting average of .300, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Stan Musial. Brett is the only player to ever win a batting title in three decades.

Brett made his MLB debut on August 2, 1973 and from 1976-1988, he was named an All-Star in 13 consecutive seasons. In 1980, Brett was named the A.L. MVP, won his first of three Silver Slugger Awards and posted a career-high .390 batting average as well as 24 homers and 118 RBI. In 1985, Brett led the Royals to victory in the World Series, winning a Gold Glove, Silver Slugger Award and ALCS MVP honors in the process. Brett won his third Silver Slugger Award in 1988. His jersey #5 has been retired by Kansas City and he is a member of the Royals Hall of Fame.

After his playing days, Brett worked for the Royals in the front office and as a coach. He is the owner of several minor league baseball teams, including the Tri-City Dust Devils, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and High Desert Mavericks, along with minor league hockey’s Spokane Chiefs. Brett was born on May 15, 1953 in Glen Dale, West Virginia.
