Dave Dravecky Booking Agent Details
Former baseball player Dave Dravecky’s story is one of courage, hope and perseverance in the face of overwhelming adversity. Dravecky made his Major League Baseball debut with San Diego in 1982. After spending 5+ seasons with the Padres, he was traded to San Francisco in 1987. That next season, Dravecky was at the top of his game and, after being the Giants opening day starter in 1988, doctors discovered cancer later that season which resulted in the removal of half of Dravecky deltoid muscle in his pitching arm.
Dravecky battled back from his cancer diagnosis to pitch again on August 10, 1989 and helped the Giants to a 4-3 win. Unfortunately, in Montreal five days later, Dravecky’s comeback bid ended on the mound when he fell to the ground in pain after his arm split in two. The cancer had returned and, as a result, Dravecky officially retired on November 13, 1989 from the game he grew up dreaming of playing. In 1991 after multiple radiation treatments, Dravecky developed a staph infection so he elected to have his arm along with his shoulder blade and part of his collar bone amputated to decrease the odds of his cancer spreading.
Because Dravecky’s story touched so many people as a source of inspiration, Dravecky and his wife started a nonprofit organization called Dave Dravecky’s Outreach of Hope. The Dravecky’s founded the ministry believing that no one should battle cancer alone and that they could provide hope to those who suffer. Since its founding, Dravecky has spoken to countless groups around the county, sharing his story and lessons he’s learned with the desire to inspire others through hope and encouragement.
