CC Sabathia is a pitcher who has played for the New York Yankees since 2009. He previously played for the Cleveland Indians (2001-2008) and Milwaukee Brewers (2008). He is a six-time All-Star and won the AL Cy Young Award in 2007 while with the Indians. Sabathia led all MLB pitchers in wins in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, he was named the ALCS MVP and helped the Yankees to a World Series championship after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-2. In 2017, Sabathia set the all-time record for strikeouts among AL left-handed pitchers. In 2019, Sabathia became the 17th pitcher in history to amass 3,000 strikeouts (and just the third lefty to do so along with Hall of Famers Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton).
Sabathia was born in Vallejo, California and went to school at Vallejo High School. Although he signed a letter of intent to play football and baseball at the University of Hawaii, he opted instead to start his professional baseball career. He was drafted by the Indians in the 1st round of the 1998 draft. He made his major league debut on April 8, 2001 and finished his rookie season with a record of 17-5 and finished runner-up to Ichiro Suzuki in AL Rookie of the Year voting.
