Considered one of the top American female hockey players of all-time, Cammi Granato captained the U.S. women’s hockey team at the 1998 Winter Games that captured an Olympic gold medal. She also helped the U.S. win a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Games, a gold at the 2005 World Championships along eight silver medals at the World Championships between 1990-2004. In 205 games as a member of the national team, Granato recorded 186 goals and 157 assists for a total of 343 points. She retired as the all-time leading scorer for the national team. In recognition of her Olympic play, Granato carried the U.S. flag at the 1998 closing ceremonies and the torch at the 2002 opening ceremonies.

One of the most decorated women’s hockey players ever, Granato received the Lester Patrick Award in 2007 for her contributions to the sport of ice hockey. She became the first female (along with Geraldine Heany and Angela James) to be inducted into the International Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008. She also became the first female to become a member of the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008 and, along with James, the first female to be similarly honored by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.

Born on March 25, 1971 in Downers Grove, Illinois, Granato played collegiately at Providence and later while earning a master’s degree for Concordia University in Montreal. Granato is married to retired NHL player Ray Ferraro and is the sister of retired NHL player Tony Granato and coach Don Granato. After retiring from playing, Granato worked as a hockey analyst for NBC Sports’ coverage of the NHL along with the 2010 Winter Olympics. In 2019, she was named a scout of the NHL’s newest team, the Seattle Kraken.
