Grant Fuhr is a former NHL goaltender who played for six teams in his career from 1981-2000. The eighth overall selection in the 1981 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Fuhr won five Stanley Cups with the Oilers and was the first African-American NHL player to capture a championship. A 2003 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, he made six appearances in the NHL All-Star Game and won the Vezina Trophy in 1988 as the NHL’s best goalkeeper. Edmonton, for whom he played for from 1981-1991, retired his No. 31 in 2003. He’s also a member of the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

As a rookie in 1981-82, he established an NHL record for longest undefeated streak by a goaltender with 23 straight games without a loss. His 79 games played in 1995-96 is also a league record for a goalie. Fuhr was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1991 and also played for the Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames. He was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017. After his playing career ended, Fuhr served as goaltending coach for the Calgary Flames from 2000-2002 and held the same position with the Phoenix Coyotes from 2004-2009.
