Boomer Esiason played quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons from 1984-1997, primarily with the Cincinnati Bengals (1984-1992, 1997) but also the New York Jets (1993-1995) and Arizona Cardinals (1996). Esiason was named to the Pro Bowl three times with Cincinnati (1986, 1988, 1989) and once with the Jets (1993.) In 1988, he had a career year, leading the NFL with a 97.4 quarterback rating while tossing a career-high 28 scores. Esiason also that season passed for 3,572 yards and recorded a 57.5 completion percentage in route to leading the Bengals to a 12-4 mark and an appearance in Super Bowl XXIII. For his efforts, Esiason was named NFL MVP and received first-team All-Pro accolades as well as AFC Player of the Year honors. Prior to the NFL, Esiason played college football at Maryland, where he established 17 school records. He was picked by Cincinnati in the 1984 NFL Draft in the 2nd round.

Off the field, Esiason has long been involved with philanthropic causes and was honored in 1995 with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Esiason’s son, Gunnar, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in the early 1990s and, in response, the Boomer Esiason Foundation was launched to help fund research in the hopes of finding a cure for the genetic disorder. To date, the Foundation has raised over $100 million. After his playing days, Esiason began a successful broadcast career, working as a studio analyst for CBS’ “The NFL Today” and Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” and hosting a radio show on WFAN Radio. He was born on April 17, 1961 in East Islip, New York.
