Bonnie Blair is one of the most decorated American female athletes in Olympics history. The former speed skater won six medals, including five gold, at the 1988, 1992 and 1994 Winter Games. She won gold in the 500 meters (1988, 1992 and 1994) and 1,000 meters (1992 and 1994). She also won a bronze medal in the 1,000 meters (1988). Additionally, Blair won three World Championships in sprint speed skating in 1989, 1994 and 1995.

Blair received a number of honors and accolades for her accomplishments, including induction into the United State Olympic Hall of Fame, Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame. In 1992, Blair won the Sullivan Award as the nation’s top amateur athlete (just the third winter athlete to claim the award) and the Oscar Mathisen Award (she was the first female winner). She was also one of three torch bearers for the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Blair was born in Cornwall, New York and moved with her family to Champaign, Illinois at a young age. She first skated at the age of two and first competed at the age of four. Blair attended Centennial High School before she made the U.S. National Team at the age of 15 and trained in Europe before moving to Milwaukee.
