Rod Smith spent the entirety of his 12 years in the NFL from 1995-2006 playing wide receiver for the Denver Broncos. Having joined the Broncos in 1994 as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Southern State, Smith’s career receiving yards (11,389) and touchdowns (68) are NFL records among undrafted players. At the time of his retirement, Smith held numerous Broncos franchise records, including career yards receiving, receptions and touchdown catches. He is a member of the Broncos Ring of Honor and became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

Smith saw limited action during his rookie and sophomore campaigns but in 1997, his third year in the NFL, he had a breakout campaign as one of quarterback John Elway’s leading targets by catching 70 passes for 1,180 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns. That year, the Broncos emerged victorious in Super Bowl XXXII with a xxxx win over Green Bay. in 1998, Denver repeated as champions, defeating Atlanta, 34-19, in Super Bowl XXXIII, with Smith notching five receptions for 152 yards and a touchdown.

In eight of nine seasons between 1997-2005, Smith produced 1,000-plus yards of receiving. He was a three-time selection to the Pro Bowl (2000, 2001, 2005) and, in 2000, he set a career-high in receiving yards with 1,602, registering 100 receptions to go along with eight touchdowns and was named second-team All-Pro. In 2001, he led the NFL with 113 catches and again was named second-team All-Pro. Smith was born on May 15, 1970 in Texarkana, Arkansas.
