R.A. Dickey is a retired pitcher who played in the Major Leagues from 2001 – 2017 for the Texas Rangers (2001, 2003 – 06), Seattle Mariners (2008), Minnesota Twins (2009) New York Mets (2010 – 12), Toronto Blue Jays (2013 – 16) and Atlanta Braves (2017).

After learning to throw a knuckleball, in 2012 Dickey recorded a 20-6 record with a league best 230 strikeouts and, for his efforts, was named an All-Star, received the Sporting News Pitcher of The Year Award and won the NL Cy Young Award, the first knuckleball pitcher and just the third Mets pitcher ever to win the honor, joining Doc Gooden and Tom Seaver. From 2013- 17, Dickey and Steve Wright of the Boston Red Sox were the only two knuckleball pitchers in Major League Baseball.

Dickey was born in Nashville, Tennessee and attended Montgomery Bell Academy. He played collegiately at the University of Tennessee, where he was named Academic All-SEC and an Academic All-American. In 1996, he was drafted by the Rangers in the 1st round of the MLB draft. In addition to his MLB career, Dickey also played internationally for Team USA, winning a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He also participated in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Dickey is a born-again Christian and has supported numerous causes, including Honoring the Father Ministries, which provides powdered milk, medical supplies and baseball equipment to the impoverished in Latin America. In 2013, Dickey appeared in the video I Am Second, which detailed his suicide attempt, history of abuse and becoming a born-again Christian. In 2011, Dickey climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa to support an organization called Bombay Teen Challenge, which ministers to victims and their children of human trafficking in India.
