Cooper has enjoyed a successful coaching career in his post-playing days. From 2000-04 he coached the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA, leading the team to back-to-back WNBA titles in 2001 and 2002. The Sparks made the championship for a third straight time in 2003 but lost to the Detroit Shock. He earned WNBA Coach of the Year honors in 2000. From 2006-2007, he coached the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (now the Canton Charge) of the NBA’s D-League (now the G-League). The Thunderbirds won the NBA D-League Championship in his first season at the helm, making Cooper the only coach to win a championship in the NBA, WNBA and NBA D-League. Cooper has also coached the USC Trojans women’s basketball team, the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream and 3’s Company of the Big3 League.
