Mark Rypien is a retired quarterback who played in the NFL from 1986 – 1997 and 2001 for the Washington Redskins (1986-1993), Cleveland Browns (1994), St. Louis Rams (1995, 1997), Philadelphia Eagles (1996) and Indianapolis Colts (2001). Rypien is best remembered for his time with the Redskins, where he was a two-time Super Bowl champion and MVP of Super Bowl XXVI, where he went 18 for 33 with two touchdowns.

Rypien was drafted by Washington in the 6th round of the 1986 draft. After being injured for two years and serving as the backup to quarterback Jay Schroeder before seeing limited action in 1988, Rypien was named the starting quarterback coming into the 1989 season. In his first full season leading the Redskins, Rypien passed for 3,768 yards and 22 touchdowns and was named to his first of two Pro Bowls. Rypien enjoyed his best season in 1991 when he recorded 3,564 yards through the air and 11 touchdowns in route to leading the team to a regular season record of 14-2 that culminated in a Super Bowl XXVI win. In total for his career, Rypien completed 56.1% of his passes for 18,473 yards and 115 scores.

Rypien was born on October 2, 1962 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada before moving to Spokane, Washington. He played college football at Washington State. He was the first quarterback born in Canada to become a starter in the NFL and win Super Bowl MVP honors.
