Doug Dieken is a former NFL offensive tackle and radio broadcaster who spent 51 years associated with the Cleveland Browns. Dieken spent his entire playing career from 1971-1984 with the Browns and by the time he retired, he had set Cleveland franchise records for consecutive games played (203) and starts (194).
Selected to the Pro Bowl in 1980, Dieken is a member of the Cleveland Browns Legends. Immediately after his playing career ended, Dieken turned to broadcasting, serving as a color commentator for the Browns from 1985-1995. From 1996-1998, when the Browns were inactive as an NFL franchise, Dieken served as an ambassador and spokesman for the team. Upon the Browns’ reactivation in 1999, Dieken resumed his broadcasting duties, doing so through the 2021 campaign, after which he announced his retirement.
Dieken is a 1992 inductee into the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame. Further honoring his achievements, the radio booth at Cleveland’s First Energy Stadium is known as the Doug Dieken Radio Booth. Off the football field, Dieken has been recognized for his community involvement, winning the 1982 Byron “Whizzer” White Man of the Year Award. The Cleveland Touchdown Club Humanitarian Award is now named in his honor as well.
