DeMarcus Ware is a former NFL defensive end and outside linebacker who played in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys (2005-2013) and Denver Broncos (2014-2016). A first round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Cowboys, Ware earned seven consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl while playing for Dallas. He also earned two trips with the Broncos. Additionally, Ware was a four-time first-team All-Pro and three-time second-team All-Pro and was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team.
A dangerous pass rusher during his career, in 2008 and 2010 Ware’s 20 and 15.5 sacks, respectively, led the NFL. He is the Cowboys all-time leader in sacks and forced fumbles. From 2006-2012, Ware had at least 10 sacks during each year. He was a two-time recipient of the professional Butkus Award in 2008 and 2011.
In 2014 Ware joined the Broncos, which were led offensively by Peyton Manning, and helped them to a berth in Super Bowl 50 and subsequent victory behind a 7.5 sack regular season. Ware played with Denver through 2016 before signing a one-day contract in 2017 to retire with Dallas. In total for his career, Ware recorded 138.5 career sacks, 654 tackles and 35 forced fumbles. Ware played collegiately at Troy, where he was twice named All-Sun Belt Conference and was the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2003. He’s a member of the Troy Sports Hall of Fame.
