Dale Brown served as the head coach of the men’s basketball team at LSU for 25 years from 1972-1977. During his time in Baton Rouge, Brown became the most successful coach in program history, compiling a 448-301 record and leading the Tigers to four SEC regular season titles, one SEC Tournament title and 13 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including two trips to the Final Four in 1981 and 1986.

He was three times named SEC Coach of the Year and, at the time of his retirement, trailed only legendary Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp in the number of wins all-time in the SEC. Brown was inducted in 2014 into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and, in 2009, he was honored by the NABC with the Golden Anniversary Award.

Brown was born on October 31, 1935 in Minot, North Dakota and attended college at Minot State (undergraduate) and the University of Oregon (graduate). During his time at Minot State, Brown earned 12 letters in the sports of basketball, track and football. He started coaching at the high school level in North Dakota and got his first job in college working as an assistant at Utah State from 1966-1971 and Washington State from 1971-1972 before being hired by LSU.
