Chris Reis is best remembered for the game-changing play he made during Super Bowl XLIV that helped lead the New Orleans Saints to victory over the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17. He recovered an onside kick to start the second half - the first one ever recovered before the fourth quarter in a Super Bowl - which in turn led to a Saints touchdown and the team’s first lead of the game. Many people consider that play to be the turning point in the game. NFL.com called the play one of the “top 10 greatest Super Bowl plays of the decade”.
Aside from being a Super Bowl champion, Reis is a devoted husband and father, loyal follower of Christ, pastor and author. Reis played collegiately at Georgia Tech, where he served as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). In 2012, Reis and his father Mike published a book called “Recovery of a Lifetime: The Inspirational Journey of a Super Bowl Hero Son and His Father\'s Battle Against Multiple Addictions”. This father-and-son book exposes the dynamics of family relationships and tells an inspiring story of faith, restoration, hope and recovery.
Today, Reis travels across the United States speaking to among others churches, youth groups, religious organizations, men’s groups and corporations. He also serves on the board of luo, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the children of Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa through medical care, nutrition, education and spiritual formation. Reis lives in Lafayette, Louisiana.
