Dan O'Brien Booking Agent Details
Dan O’Brien is a former U.S. Olympic decathlete who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Games and three straight world championships in 1991, 1993 and 1995. In 1992, he set a decathlon world record (and American record) by amassing 8,891 points during a 10-day competition in Talence, France. The record stood as the world’s best until 1999 and as the American record for almost 20 years until it was broken by Ashton Eaton in 2012. O’Brien also claimed the 1993 World Indoor Championships held in Toronto with a gold medal in the heptathlon. Off the track, O’Brien is remembered for his role in the 1992 Reebok advertising campaign “Dan & Dave” with fellow U.S. decathlete Dave Johnson.
In recognition of his achievements, O’Brien received a host on honors and is a member of the United States Olympic Hall of Fame, Oregon Sports Hall of Fame and National Track and Field Hall of Fame. After the 1996 Olympics, O’Brien was honored with a parade in Moscow, Idaho and “Dan O’Brien Day” by the state. There’s a street named after O’Brien in Klamath Falls, Oregon and the track and field facility at the University of Idaho is named in his honor.
In 2012, O’Brien co-wrote a book titled “Clearing Hurdles: The Quest to Be The World’s Greatest Athlete”. Additionally, he’s owned a gym in Scottsdale, Arizona, volunteered as a track coach at Arizona State and done television broadcast work covering track & field events.
