Pete Rose, nicknamed “Charlie Hustle”, is widely recognized as one of the best talents in baseball history. Rose played from 1963-1986 with the Cincinnati Reds (1963-1978, 1984-1986), Philadelphia Phillies (1979-1983) and Montreal Expos (1984). He became MLB’s all-time hits leader when he broke Ty Cobb’s mark on September 11, 1985 by notching his 4,192nd hit (he finished his career with 4,256). He also holds the MLB all-time records for career games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053) and plate appearances (15,890).

Over the course of his career, Rose was named an All-Star 17 times (only Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Cal Ripken Jr., Rod Carew, Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski had more) and was the N.L. MVP in 1973, a year in which he led MLB with 230 hits and batted .338 (he also finished in the top five in MVP voting another four times). Rose was the MLB batting champion in 1968, 1969 and 1973 and won back-to-back Gold Gloves in 1969 and 1970. In 1999, he was named to Major League Baseball’s All-Century Team. He has received numerous other honors, including the Hutch Award, Roberto Clemente Award and Lou Gehrig Memorial Award. Rose is a member of the Reds Hall of Fame and had his jersey #14 retired by the team in 2016.

Rose won three World Series titles in his career - two in the back-to-back seasons of 1975 and 1976 with Cincinnati as a member of the famed Big Red Machine that included the likes of Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Tony Perez, and another in 1980 as a member of the Phillies. He was named MVP of the World Series in 1975. Rose made his MLB debut for the Reds on April 8, 1963 and went on to enjoy a strong rookie campaign, winning National League Rookie of the Year honors. Rose also managed the Reds from 1984-1989, including a stint as player-manager from 1984-1986.
