Al Leiter pitched in the major leagues for 19 seasons from 1987-2005 with the New York Yankees (1987-1989, 2005), Toronto Blue Jays (1989-1995), Miami Marlins (1996-1997, 2005) and New York Mets (1998-2004). In 1992 and 1993, Leiter won back-to-back World Series titles in Toronto and later won a third World Series ring with the Marlins in 1997. He posted a career record of 162-132 with an ERA of 3.80 and 1,974 strikeouts. Well-known off the field for his philanthropic endeavors, Leiter in 1999 won the Branch Rickey Award and, in 2000, was honored with the Roberto Clemente Award.

In 1996, his first season in Miami, Leiter went 16-12 with a 2.93 ERA while striking out 200 batters in 215.1 innings of work. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and additionally placed ninth in that year’s N.L. Cy Young voting. The next season in 1997 during the Marlins’ World Series-winning campaign saw Leiter record 11 wins. Upon being dealt to the Mets in 1998, Leiter produced one of his finest seasons when he posted career-highs in wins (17), win-to-loss percentage (74%) and ERA (2.47). For his efforts, he finished sixth in the N.L. CY Young voting. Leiter was a key member of the New York club that advanced to the 2000 World Series as he went 16-8 with an ERA of 3.20 on the year, earning another trip to the All-Star Game in the process.

Born on October 23, 1965 in Toms River, New Jersey, Leiter was picked by the Yankees in the 2nd round of the 1984 MLB draft. He made his debut in the majors with the Yankees on September 15, 1987. After his playing days, Leiter moved to the broadcast booth as an analyst with FOX Sports, YES Network, Fox Sports Florida and MLB Network.
